In the latest update from the wacky world that is politics in Kansas Governor Brownback is calling the $384M tax increase he just signed not a tax increase.

http://www.kansas.com/news/politics-government/article24640072.html

His justification is his tax cuts that blew a hole in the budget make up for the tax increase required to fill that hole.

The budget had an $800M hole in it for 2016. Half that was filled with one time accounting tricks (highway fund transfers, delayed pension payments) the other half with these tax increases. I can't wait to see what the legislature does with the 2017 budget which will most likely start off $400M in the hole.

Our long state nightmare continues.

He cut taxes for the rich, promising that economy would grow and offset the lost revenues. That didn't happen, so he raised sales taxes on the poor, including food, to offset the lost revenues. And now after he just pissed on the poor people, he's telling them it's raining.

Kansas is exactly what the country would look like if the current republicans were in control. Ideology before sense.

Kansas must be full of wealthy people who like Brownback giving them all of that money back and then replacing it with more taxes on everything people buy. Even the counties and cities will be paying taxes on the goods they purchase!

What a mess they have made of that place. Keep your eyes on Louisiana too since Jindal has a 1.6 billion dollar shortfall to address real soon, like July 1st...lol!

Kansas is full of people steeped in religious dogma. They are incapable of voting their interests and vote how the church tells them. Its pretty sad.

It makes sense looking down at it from the top. Cut your own taxes, create a fiscal crisis, rebalance the budget with cut! cut! cut! & higher taxes on the little guys. Keep your tax cut.

Even if it doesn't last forever, it'll be very good while it does. Shearing the sheep is always a good time.

Once the tax increases take effect at the city and county government level, those entities will have to increase their fees and such to make up for the new tax money that will now be sent to the state government. So not only does every citizen and business of Kansas have to send money to the state for every purchase they make, so do the government entities within the state. Guess who gets to pay those taxes too? Just about everyone will pay more and they are being told to be happy that they will be getting less for that money. All so some people who already have a lot of money can have some more.

I hope the dumbfucks who voted him in are getting exactly what they wanted since I doubt anyone else there is.
