Hello fellow friends,

I just want to get your opinion on whether one time pad encryption is good for a research topic/paper.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-time_pad

Do you think it will be? There are three things one must say when talking about one time pad:

1- It is unbreakable if used correctly
2- It requires a completely random number
3- You have a key distribution issue

The thing is, in a research paper, you will have to have some kind of contribution to the topic. Now I can read and explore the subject thoroughly, but will I really be able to add something? Or the subject has been beat to death?

I'm doing this for a university class(cyber security major). I was reading about it the other day, and it made me interested. It is very simple, and unbreakable if used correctly, which can be hard. In other words, it is impractical. So the question that came to my mind: How can we perfectly implement one time pad? Can we reach a level of ideal implementation for which practicability isn't an issue?

I want to research this. Good or bad?

I initiated a discussion about it in stackexchange website. You can read it here:

If you think it is not good for such purpose, please suggest me other topics I can do research on in the cyber security field.

Thanks a million

I don't know, you tell us. *Do* you have something to add to the topic? We're not going to hand you the talking points for your own research paper. If you've got something to say about the topic, than write about it. If you can't think of anything to say, pick something else.

It is actually not a research paper yet, only a proposal. The actual research will be requested just before graduation. This is just to get us used to doing research. We are only given two weeks for this assignment, which is obviously not enough of course for a *research*. I can't possibly read enough material about this specific encryption technique in this time frame to decide whether I can contribute or add something. That's why I sought some help.

I don't want any talking points. But you can help if you tell me this topic is appropriate or not.

Thanks.
