Why is it okay to show the 'breasts' of any species on pictures/tv etc., but is it 'forbidden' to show the breasts of female Humans on the same way?

I'd say that by treating it like a secret/something unsuitable for children (while they're ironically used to feed young children with), male Humans will start treating them like such. They'll become 'turned' by the mere sight of the upper part of a breast or a nippel which is visible through the clothing which covers it.

In cultures where it's normal for females to walk around nude above the waist and breasts are thus a common sight, males don't show those signs. Because this means that a nice 'curve' of a female's body, although covered with clothing, is in our and similar cultures sufficient to make a male Human completely 'lose his mind', which sometimes leads to a male raping (forced mating) a female.

By reguarly showing 'nudity', i.e. pictures of naked men and women, this will lead to habituation by nearly everyone. It should no longer be considered 'abnormal' to see a random person partly or totally naked. Of course, it requires huge modifications in those cultures and won't therefore be easy, but it will eventually lead to positive results and a much stronger link between many individuals, which in turn is good for society.

BTW before replying, I kindly ask you to keep any wisecracks for yourself. Thank you.

Well personally, I'd rather be excited at the site of a good looking woman than desensitized to it. The world would a whole lot more boring otherwise. We don't censure a cow's udder because we aren't cows. I hear they do censor sheep udders in North Dakota though. :)

I didn't say 'desensitized'. It's merely that a male just doesn't 'lose it' as soon he sees the shape of (a) breast(s). It'll simply require more to make such a male excited, like before and during sexual intercourse.

It is purely cultural, Elledan. I'm just not sure if we as a society are ready to deal with the difficulties of changing it - and whether those difficulties are considered worth the end result.

It is an interesting observation though.

To me, I think it's more sexier if a woman wears a bikini or other revealing clothing than none at all.

well if the change was made, those of us that are used to getting turned on by women's breasts are very very lucky :D

Optimus, yes I'm aware of the difficulties in changing a culture. Cultures usually change very slowly over time and are nearly impossible to modify at such a scale within a decade.

BTW male apes are known to rape female apes sometimes too, so it's not a Human-only thing, except that under apes it's extremely rare and extremely common in 'our' culture(s).

Hahah, women can legally go topless around these parts. Of course no one does it.

Wrong, after a while you'd get used to the 'sight' and wouldn't get turned on that easily.

Welcome to the wonderful world of habituation ;)

Oh yeah, but that's gonna take a few years of seeing topless women. And damn those are gonna be good years.

If all the women walked around topless then their damn boobs would be sagging down to their knees :p Keep 'em in a bra when not in use! hehe

Have you seen pictures or anything of females who live in tribes where all women walk topless? It doesn't look like their breasts start sagging that quickly. Of course, whether breasts start 'sagging' at an early age is mostly genetical and further determined by factors like feeding children etc.

Well there's the answer to your problem... TRIBES. These people act like primitives in comparison to first world societies. I'm sure back when humans were hairy bastards they didn't mind walking around topless either. :p

And yes I have seen pictures and most of them, except for the really young ones, looked very saggy :p In comparison to any other one's I have seen at least.

Yes, and we're exceptionally civilized... I wouldn't say that so quickly ;)

And how many breasts have you seen then? ;)

elledan - you fail to address that all the evidence points to the fact that rape is not a crime of attraction, but of power and dominence.

I have to agree with the idea of desensitization, but I wonder how far it would work? Sure, we don't get all excited to see a woman's bare ankles or even knees. However, is there really precident for suggesting that we could, through acclimation with nudity, reach a point where we had erradicated all such dilemmas?

Also, I would strongly dispute the dispute the notion that a man can be driven to "madness," where he won't take 'no' for an answer by anything but internal motivations. This smacks a little to close to the "she was asking for it by dressing that way" defense - not that I think it is what you are getting at in any way, but it is another way to shift blame and self responsibility.

"It's not my fault I did it, it's society's fault for teaching me that the sight of a woman's breasts are taboo..."

I wouyoldn't mind if there was a law that said only women with good looking breast were allowed to go topless but women would complain about it and the next thing you know we would be subjected to droopies and fried eggs. Of course there should be a law that fat dudes should have to wear shirts, especially if they need a bra themselves.

isildur - just borrowing your comment.

I am sure that my opinion on this is greatly influenced by the fact that I am female, but here goes.
In the past year I can list many movies/vidoes etc that I have seen which have a consistent theme, a naked female and not just their breasts.
Boys Don't Cry and The Tailor of Panama to name a few, but if I want to see a dick I have look beyond mainstream media and head off to a porn shop. It seems to me that the male organ is deemed too valuable and sacred to used as a marketing tool where as women and their boobs are used to as a commodity to sell most items and push up box office ratings.

I sorta agree with you.

Of course, as Kami said, women are allowed to legally go around topless here, but no one does it.

what bothers me is that there are hundreds of commercials showing a baby's bare ass up close, but if a woman's breasts are shown, it an 18+ program (I am talking about TV here)

remember the big deal that was made when Halle Barry showed her breasts for like 3 seconds in Swordfish? Why did that even make the news???

where I disagree is that (as isildur said) rape and other such crimes are related more to power and dominanace, I dont think desensitizing poeple will help. After all, if its sex theyt want, they can get a hooker and not ruin a woman's life and go to jail for years.

kassy, I see topless men in infomercials all the time (mainly to ones for all that fitness crap).

true, a penis is never shown, but a vagina is never shown too (again, both can be found in porn shops but not outside)
