I just watched various footage of Javelin missiles hitting obsolete tanks. Nice explosion, lotsa flame and smoke. Then it stops, each and every bloody time. :| That shows me that this fire-and-forget replacement for the Dragoon indeed allows infantry to hit armour with gusto, but it gives me no idea of its effectiveness (even against old fashioned noncomposite armour).
The missile is programmed to look and target a tank's weakest spot, so I do indeed expect it to have some effect depending on the warhead. But I would still like to see the aftermath of a Javelin hitting a newer generation tank with extensive Chobham armour. Afterall, a peashooter can also hit a tank.
Unfortunately, I assume that this would be classified so most will never get to see it (flying turrets from an M47 or M48 mean jacksquat in my book).
I have the same beef with Hellfire missile footage but at least these were used in combat in 91.
