One PC at work opens Word documents as read-only randomly.

This PC opens .doc documents (word) as read only totally randomly. I mean, this document will be opened normally on other PC and after closing this file on this PC, the other one may or may not open it as read only.

This is totally random (or so it seems). One document could be opened normally and the next minute is read only.
This has nothing to do with user's permissions (we have a Windows 2003 domain server).
This PC has this problem with users that DON'T have this problem on other PCs.

So again, sometimes the documents on this PC are opened as read only, sometimes not. They are not read only or opened by some other guy in another PC.

What do you think?

Did somebody monkey with the SMB oplocks settings? (in a rush so I can't go into detail but give it a google.. SMB opportunistic locking). Some AV disables this during install.

Holy crap... that sounds like a Missile locking system from a hi-tech starship !!!
I'll google it then... I'm using Nod32 in that PC, maybe...?

Ok, I read some about this stuff... I'm only more confused. What does Oplock do exactly? It locks files so no other can access them? Why do you explain I have this prob in only one PC?

If I disable it, won't I have any problems such as two guys opening the same file and overwritting each other work?
I didn't quite get what oplocks is... 😛

Some AV's are known to do this (this bug used to happen more in the past). Turn off nod's realtime scanner and try again (remember to turn it back on after!)

Actually, I just checked it out... the AV is uninstalled and we have the same prob... but it was installed once (nod 32). How do I fix this?
