one or two firewalls?

The setup is

router - dmz
|
lan

sql/mail traffic between the lan/dmz

The question is. One or two firewall setup? Either a single firewall between the two and the router, or firewall A, and firewall B, one protecting the lan and one the dmz, passing on to the router.

Is two an overkill?

Id throw an OpenBSD 2.9-stable box between the router and the 2 networks. With 3 network cards it shouldnt be hard to get everything working with just 1 good firewall.

The firewall included with 2.9-stable is IPF. Is that what you mean? PF is still a little too new for me to be comfortable using it.
