One of those password days

So, I hadn't been logged into one of my Linux (LM) disks in a month or two and as I watched it come up I realized this vacation thing is killing me in the memory department. Specifically, I can't remember the damn login password. Its the latest Linux Mint. Not encrypted. Nothing valuable on it, but damn my brain.

Should be able to fairly easily reset it if you boot from a live USB. Basically you login with a live distro, mount the local disk, chroot to it, and you can just use the passwd command.

I actually chose to encrypt my system last time I formatted, I always forget about it until I have to reboot, then it's like "uhhh what did I put again?". I have it written down on a small piece of paper that's otherwise nondescript but it kinda defeats the purpose.

I tried the GRUB recovery method found on a Google search, but when I selected the GRUB option it just booted the system and not into a rot shell. I'll just mount the disk on another OS, make sure i am not forgetting anything worth getting off of it and then nuke and pave. I am all about Atomics.

I installed Ext2Fsd onto a Windows 7 boot drive and then connected the LM SSD via SATA2USB and was able to mount the Ext partition. While this allows me access to files on the Ext partition as a mapped local drive, is there something, file-wise, that I can delete or edit to reset the password?
