One of those hidden startup items

On both my laptop and desktop I have Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0. Every time I boot the laptop, one of the things that I get, near the end of the long list of things initializing, is a Windows Explorer window that shows the contents of

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\

It has been doing it for quite a while, but not since day one, at all. Several months ago it started, perhaps?

Anyway I know a few tricks of where to look for turning off options to have things come up at boot time, Startup Menu, Run key in the Registry, options in the IDE itself, but this one has me stumped. I also have Visual Studio .Net 2003 on both machines. I really don't think the install of .Net coincides with the phenomenon. And it happens only on the laptop.

Just a curiosity, I know, but I sure wish I could find out.

see my sig, download spybot 1.3 and startup list. run the startup list and see what is initialized on boot up and where it is at to remove it. spybot 1.3 has a less complicated way of halting startup items, but does not find as many as startup list. post startup lists log on here

Also check in Windows Explorer:

tools > options > view

and make sure Restore previous folder windows at logon is not checked.

startuplist found it for me. I had looked in the Registry Run key, and had missed it. Apparently DownloadWare had placed its dw.exe in the Visual Studio directory and then called it from the Registry at startup. Seems strange they would put it there. But anyway, I deleted the value from the Registry and that did it.
