the right side hinge on my HPlaptop screen is broken. It is like a ball in socket joint.

while this does not hinder performance, the screen has trouble staying in the correct upwards position.

Is there any way that a computer repair place would actually be able to fix this?

Would HP be able to fix it?

Anyone ever had this problem?

HP can fix it, and you'd definitely want to contact them if you're still under warranty.

Third-party places will probably only fix it if the parts they can use are more or less common -- which, I suspect, isn't very likely. If you bought from a third party such as Best Buy, what they'll probably do is just send it in to HP for you after a quick diagnosis, i.e. there's not much point unless you have a warranty through them.

I bought it at comp usa, but I dont think it is still under warranty. I had a two year warranty, with the option to renew, but i dont believe i was ever contacted with the promised renewal option. I guess im kinda stuck. I guess I can either take it to comp, or contact hp.

I hope your CompUSA still exists. Ours is gone! You may be able to find a replacement case on EBay.
