"I was shooting a movie called '300'. It's a fantastical telling of the ancient (true) battle of the Spartans and the Persians. Our version is less History Channel and more History on Crack and Steroids. If you're interested/bored you could check out

http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/index.html "

He included this picture of him posing with a pile of "dead bodies" from the set.

I was a little disappointed to learn that it's a remake of a Frank Miller (Sin City) graphic novel and not a movie version of the book "Gates of Fire," but regardless, I will be going to see it with my husband.

Same here. I have a feeling this will be a pretty big let down after that book.

Don't worry, that's normal. The book is usually always better than the movie. You need to see it for what it is.

About 300 spartans who kill off like 500,000 persian warriors at a wedge

Sorry

One of the most famous battles of all time, and I would love a great movie about it. However, the statistics you quote of "About 300 spartans who kill off like 500,000 persian warriors at a wedge" is pretty inaccurate, historically speaking.

HOw would you know what is accurate anyway?

There were ~3000 greek soldiers, 300 of which were spartans (All-sire unit = suicide mission). They held for a very long time, after which the rest of the Greeks were released and the Spartans remained to fight to the death.

Go find and read "Gates of Fire" by some guy whose name I forgot. Excellent read, about this battle. I would rather the movie be based on the book.

About greek attire, the spartans had almost full armor, if I recall. I know they at least wore full breastplates, helmets with very full faceplates, and at least some protection on their legs. Those sheilds also look small to me.

Yeah. Watch the history channel once in a while. 300 men HELD OFF hundreds of thousands of troops which is absolutely unbelievable in and of itself. Of course it helped that they picked a pass that could only fit like 5 men wide at a time and the fact that they had much better armor.

Also turns out that Spartans were encouraged to be gay. Just an interesting fact in history.

unfortunately, the way that the 300 died was that a traitor told the enemy king how he could route his army around the 300 soldiers. they did and came up behind em.

that looks cool as ******, though.

I wasn't denying that there were 300 spartans. Just the "300 vs 500,000" numbers. There were 300 spartains, plus anywhere from 3,000-10,000 allies. The Persian Army ranged anywhere from 60,000-250,000, with best estimates putting it around the 100,000-125,000 mark. And it's not like they killed the whole Persian army either. They lost the battle, tactically. But it was one of the grestest last stands of all time and allowed them to win the war.

Datalink I wasn't denying your statements. I was refuting Kelvrick.

Doesn't seem physically possible that they killed 500k ppl with 300. I would say 3-5k would be more realistic, at best.. But it seems they held off long enough for allied support to win.

it is written by Frank Miller, so it's most likely highly embelished. I love Frank Miller's Batman comics, and such, and will most likely see the movie. I will just go in knowing that's it's mostly comic book.

I'm sorry if I haven't seen any recent history channel specials, but last I heard, there weren't any dependable historical records from the era, only stories. Thats why I was wondering how you seemed to be so sure of yourself to make such a confident statement.

Wow, I'm really shocked to see such positive comments. I think it looks pretty silly/bad.

Guess I'm the odd one out.
