One of our beagles is getting surgery for the 2nd time today

Linflas

Lifer
We took in 2 rescue beagles back in October. Molly is a little sad sack that is afraid of everything but she has actually made amazing progress since we first got her. The one bad thing is that last winter she tore up a bunch of linoleum from our kitchen floor and ate it. She ended up having to have surgery to remove it from her stomach. We were planning to have the linoleum replaced with ceramic tile so we weren't too upset about the floor at the time. After that we keep the 2 beagles crated while we are at work but otherwise we have been pretty successful at house training them so they can be out without messing on the floor etc while we are home.

2 weeks ago however when they were left alone for 15 minutes Molly found another seam in the floor and went to work. When I came in the kitchen and found her I thought I was lucky enough to have caught her before she could have eaten vary much. It turns out there are now 2 strips of it stuck in her stomach again so this morning they have to open her up yet again to remove it. 🙁

our family has a beagle, and i have to say they're not the smartest of dogs. but they're great pets though!

i have 2 beagles, i will never again have a beagle as a pet. today they are the best dogs in the world except for their problems they have due to being purebreds. one can hardly walk due to bad hips, other has skin/allergy/ocd and a few other issues. after about 4 years of raising them they finally become able to live in a structure with humans.

they are some pretty cute puppys though

ocd = obsessive compulsive disorder? How does that work in dogs?

Like in human (they do something repetitively to release the anxiety). The most popular in dogs is digging (not to hide something, which dogs do as well) holes.

We have a beagle as well, and her worst traits are a weak bladder and an uncanny ability to find ways out of our fenced backyard. She's a great dog, though.

We got them from the Washington Animal Rescue League. They got them through a program where they take animals from other shelters to help find them homes called Share. They were originally taken from this disgusting puppy mill . We have been very pleased overall with how they are coming along. Molly now wags her tail some and no longer keeps it constantly curled up between her hind legs. We have scheduled to have a ceramic floor put in when my wife is out on summer break so Molly won't have anymore linoleum available to dine on.

Willow, the sister of the one getting the surgery lets go with the bladder when she is afraid. There is no way we could let them run loose in our yard, they would find ways through the fence with no problem. They show them to us all the time just walking out there on a leash.

Ah. I didn't know that about dogs. Thanks for the explanation.

well one thing my dog will do is scratch herself, being in the south its inevitable that she picks up a flea or two now and then, i give her the flea bath and other skin care things that help with itching and have been effective but she will continue scratching just as habit.
she drinks way too much water, she starts and just keeps going until she cant drink anymore lol if there is food anywhere she must have it. i piece of cat food fell behind the fridge and she could smell it i guess so she wouldnt stop digging at the fridge until i got her that piece. she can say hello pretty well though.
