Attacker Arrested
OCEAN CITY ? A Frederick, Md. man was arrested this week for attacking an accordion player who was playing a song requested by one of the attacker?s female companions.
Around 3:40 a.m. on Monday, OCPD officers responded to 12th Street and Baltimore Ave. for a reported strong-arm robbery that had just occurred. The victim told police he was walking down the street playing his accordion when he was approached by a group of individuals. As he walked by, the victim said one member of the group called him ?homo,? but when he tried to ignore the insult, a female member of the group stopped him and asked the victim to play a song for her.
The victim told police when he began to play the song for the female, a male member of the group, later identified as Jowaun M. Ford, 18, of Frederick, approached him and grabbed his accordion. The victim said he would not give up his accordion and in the ensuing struggle, both the victim and Ford fell to the ground.
Once on the ground, Ford let go of the accordion, but the struggle continued. When the victim fled, Ford chased him saying, ?I?m going to kick your ass if I catch you,? according to the police report. When police arrived, Ford fled northbound on foot on Baltimore Ave. He was later located on a bus stop at 13th Street. The victim and three bystanders all identified Ford as the attacker and he was arrested and charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft less than $500.
