It is listed under devices and says it's working properly. I had access to it when I first installed it but it disappeared. It is a Western Digital 250 gb in an external enclosure.

i would try running a DFT ( drive Fitness Test) from Hitachi and make sure in device mananger it is assigned a drive letter that is not in use.

are you using a USB extension cable or usb Hub, I had a broblem like this once when I plugged a External drive into one USB port it worked fine then after I plugged it to a different USB port and it won't work I had to plug it into the same USB port that I first plugged it in to.

USB external HDD enclosures are nothing but trouble.
Its O.K. for general use, but if you put critical data on it, better have data recovery software handy.

Anyways, you are going to have to go in disk manager and see what the drive configure looks like, especially file system type, if any (it may be RAW). Or it may have kicked down to basic. Remember NTFS cant see FAT 32 or FAT 16

A linked screenshot uploaded to www.image-shack.com might help
