One more...

Great Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and S.T.A.L.K.E.R results though they used static lighting instead of dynamic. Other then those the X2900 XT is where it is expected somewhere around 8800 GTS 640 level. Though it tended to have somewhat better results in 25x16 then the 8800 GTS 640 to be fair, but performance at that level with a single card isn't all to amazing.

This card WOULD be a perfect buy for me if it had lower power consumption and a more silent cooling system. I have a 500-watt PS and it seems like that is just barely enough for this card, which is ridiculous.

For me, the performance is good enough. Future driver updates should put its performance slightly above or matching the GTS. It has UVD which is a huge plus. HDMI audio, big plus. But the power and noise issues are enough to sway me away from it for now. I'll wait for a future revision that hopefully addresses these issues.

Anyone else find it a bit coincidental that things are shaping up similarly to how the X1800 lauched?

well said. There's more to a card than pure FPS power.....power usage and noise rank pretty high in my book as well. I don't want to spend extra $$ on a 3rd party cooling solution and some more on a beefier PSU.

As far as performance....I think the potential is there.....but I'm 'potentiall' playing games now, and not in a couple of months when drivers can/may get fixed.

I'm not at all convinced after reading a hadnful of reviews of the 2900xt....which is why I'm going with the GTS...now.
