1ST : my copy of windows xp i recived OEM from neweeg is allitle weird as it assigned my harddrive to E and F instead of C and D, but more importantly the taskbar is allitle large and the corner icons are big and blurry(almost like a safe mode). i tryed everything to reduce there size or improve their quality but i havent registered it yet could that be why?
Its most icon like the start menu to not just the takbar

2ND: on the regerstering subject by regerstering my copy what does that exctaly do. will it disable installing it on a new HDD if mine dies (since its stopping piracy)? Forcing me to buy a new copy!

Help on either of these woulb be graet. Thanx 🙂

Sounds like you had something on the hard drive before and didn't get it cleared.
Also sounds like you need to install video card drivers.
You will be able to install a new hard drive with your current XP license. Even changing video cards should be no problem. If you chage the motherboard, you wil have to re-activate and call MS with an explanation.

Bozo 😀

thats the funny thing my HDD was a brand new WD sata (new system 🙂 )and i just partition and formatted it two days ago. as fo the vidio card drivers i just installed them yesterday but i havent got to update versions (EVGA 6600gt) could that be it?

aThanx fo the regisration help tho.

Sounds like a driver issue.

Registration has nothing to do with piracy. I'd just forget about the registration stuff.

Nothing about if being OEM would affect the drive letter assignment. Possible you had some sort of card reader installed? I've seen some installs give them lower drive letters (especially WinPE boots) and then show the harddrives (yes, I know, stupid). Perhaps that happened during your install?

Any other Hard Drives in the system? XP is notorious for getting drive letters messed up if there is an IDE drive in the system and you are installing to a SATA drive. Remove the IDE drive when doing the XP install.

But in re-reading some of your answers I see that you partitioned and formatted prior to the XP install. Then, you probably did not install to one of those partitions you created.

The XP install will partition and format for you. No need to do it ahead of time. Create a partition the size you want for the OS and set up any other partitions you desire afterwards from within XP.

Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Disk Management. How many drives do you have listed there? I'm guessing four.

ok i got just the one sata drive and as for the card reader only if its on the dfi lanparty nf3 250gb.

i only formated the windows 12gb partition and did the other in windows itself when i was installing halo, far cry and some others.

however i have an (old!) 100mb zip drive (i love that thing lol) as my 2nd optical drive (1st being dvd) but i dont think that would affect anything + a floppy disk fo good measure
