One monitor doesn't work when system starts up

When I start up my system, my secondary monitor (1680x1050) will be black but the power led indicates that it is on. Out of the blue I found a workaround that involves me right clicking -> screen resolution -> and constantly changing the Multiple Displays option to any of the options until the second screen shows up. My primary screen is an asus vh236h 1920 x 1080 and my secondary is a viewsonic.

Anyone know what's up with the monitor? It started happening out of the blue. Is it my video card?

I have an msi 7950 with driver version 9.14.10.0960 catalyst 13.2.

Try swapping inputs. If you are using VGA for instance, switch to DVI.

I had a monitor do the same and it was because the ADC was dieing. It works perfectly with DVI. VGA no longer works at all.

I tried swapping to VGA, but my graphics card doesn't have a vga slot so I used a VGA to DVI converter. still didn't work. only way i can solve it and bring the monitor back is through random events of changing my monitor set ups through changing the multiple displays option or by replugging the dvi cable multiple times.

I havent gotten the chance to test it on a machine first thing in the morning yet. I've noticed that this only happens in the morning after I've shut down my computer for a while. I would have to do all of the troubleshooting every morning to get it working on this rig.

If the Monitor looks to be on stand by and takes a lot of time to start, even if you use it as primary, it can mean that its internal power supply may need a replacement. Happened to me with my Samsung SyncMaster 932N+.
