http://www.asrock.com/news/k8_combo.htm

whoa, socket 754/939 combo mobo!? This would be great for futureproofing!! :) But has anyone tried out this mobo? Is the chipset any good? Sorry if this has already been posted, but I did try to using search for this on the forum after finding out about the mobo :)

OH! On the ASRock site, they say their board also has TWO PCI-E Slots (X1), but the one on Newegg's website doesnt have PCI-E support :( Anyone find the mobo with the PCI-E slots or is it not out yet?

It's not out yet. I don't think there are any boards out right now that are dual socket. I must admit, though, that I'm not surprised Asrock designed a solution like this. They've been doing things like that at least ever since I had one of their older VIA boards that had SDRAM and DDR slots on it. I scrolled through the page, but didn't notice what chipset they were using. Did I miss it, or did they just not list it? I wonder if there would be a performance hit to having two sockets on one board. I wouldn't get the board though. If I were to go s754 first, I'd get the DFI lanparty. Then, when I wanted to upgrade my CPU a year or two later, I'd probably upgrade the motherboard as well.

Stikes me as very similar to those old overdrive upgrades - expensive and slow
If you are planning to spend that much money buy a goddamn 939 mobo and be done with it - it would all be bettter in the long run
Oh - and from the looks of it there is not a second memory channel on the PCB - just too DIMM slots on the same channel

This is actually the less ambitious of the ASRock dual boards. Their other board supports K7 and K8 with a add-in daughterboard.

would be useful for those who don't want to spend the cash for a 939 processor yet and can upgrade later, but i'm not sure if it supports dual channel

i want to see some performance reviews/overclock tests

Found a review from a guy on the mobo thread! :)

Asrock 754/939 combo board review

This board is actually on par with mobos from Gigabyte and Abit using K8T800/K8T800Pro and nForce 250/nForce250Gb chipsets. And yeah, there are 2 dimm slots exculsively for the s754 and 3 dimms exculsively for the s939 that support dual-channel configuration. ;)Although the overclocking features seem to be very restricting, this board seems to be good for people who want to get a value oriented board for the affordable s754 A64 2800+ without having to sacrifice future upgradeability.
