My brother stumped me this weekend. His LiteOn DVD-ROM burnt (funny smell of ozone, and the tray came about a third of the way out. The drive is dead. Not a big deal I've seen similiar, and stranger. The weird part is that his other drive won't read certain discs. Both Unreal Tourney '03 and '04 won't install but it will read his music backups and such. Apparently it's developed some kind of a cataract. I have no idea how to fix this. His specs are as follows:
Athlon64 3000+ Venice core
MSI K8N Neo2-F
2x256MB PC3200 Crucial
RADEON9800Pro
SB Audigy2 ZS
200GB WD IDE Hard Drive
16x Liteon DVD-RW (SOHW-1633s)
16x Liteon DVD-ROM (dead)
WinXP Pro SP2
Oh and it shows in My Computer the disc it should be (ie UT04) and it does spin up, but keeps on spinning without doing anything in windows. Setup.exe shows up in the Cntrl, Alt, Delete screen but still does nothing. Could it be something with copy protection, like some app that is interferring?
