What that headline should read, is, "SUV drivers most likely to cause crash, but survive it".

Seems that most of the idiot drivers of the 80's and 90's, who used to drive little Hondas and Toyotas, now drive overbearing behemoths (aka "SUV's"). They still can't drive worth a damn, but hey, they're safer now......it's just everyone else who's at risk!! :hmm:

I remember joking that it would be neat if your license was restricted to vehicle size based on your driving record. Shitty drivers would only be allowed to drive little compact cars and the only people driving the full size pickup would be the guys with reasonably good driving records. Of course this would cause a lot of problems in the real world, but it's fun to think about. I was driving a water truck when I was 19, so that rule would have screwed me over if it existed at that time.

The driver died? From what? Doesn't look like a very bad accident overall...

They must have all not been wearing their seatbelts.

Article says 4 of 5 were ejected and driver (unknown if he was one of the ejected) suffered severe head trauma and died. Medivac was involved too.

No doubt. I am constantly arguing against my wife about getting an SUV (she has always wanted one). This just takes one less thing off my list of arguments which was that a car was safer.

You can add you are less likely to collect life insurance if she's driving the SUV. Might want to keep that on the separate list though. :whiste:

Best is a vehicle about 4000 lb as thats the best trade off between mass around you and vehicle driving dynamics for accident avoidance, deviate from that and you compromise on one or the other.
Second is design, how many airbags, ESC and so on. Its the reason lots of cars score high even though they are smaller and why trucks have improved so much even though they are so heavy
