One lens to rule them all?

I've got too many lenses now that I rarely use so I'm thinking of selling to get a superzoom. But at the same time I'm afraid I might get seller's remorse. These are the ones I'll be selling if I do - 2 50mm 1.7, 50mm 2.8 macro, 28-105 3.5-4.5, 28-135 4-4.5, 55-200 3.5-6.3, 70-210 4, and 75-300 3.5-6.3.

I'm looking to get a 24-240 3.5-6.3 to replace them all. It's gotten good reviews for being a superzoom. And if I should long for a prime I still have a handful of legacy MF lenses (35, 50, 58, 135 and 35-80).

So would you sell or keep?

Ok I'm super confused. When do you use each of these lenses? Why do you have so many overlapping focal lengths? 3 zooms, 2 mid-ranges, and 2 50's. The macro is the only one I see that doesn't duplicate purposes.

Hard to answer this q without knowing what you typically shoot. Low light indoor sports? Landscapes? Portraits?

Prime lens are the best. Best quality, best performance. If you want 1 lens to rule them all... you will see the diference in the photo quality and it won't be good!

depends on what he shoots. If you're doing weddings where you may have restricted moveement or rapidly developing situations for maybe a journalist.... i think you'd be better of with some sort of zoom for flexibility sake. You're right about quality in general and low light performance.... but if we're talking about versatility...?

One lens only? Assuming it's just for fun or art with no specific purpose like weddings or something, I would go with a 35mm prime and a 70-300 type lens for the occasions you need reach. Hard to imagine a situation where you would all of sudden need 300mm.

Heh, that's exactly the setup I carry in my daily carry bag that stays in the car with me wherever I go.... JUST IN CASE.
