laptops and desktops ship out pretty quick

Have you ever try dell support for their products lately? It's a nightmare with all the phone # maze and tech support who request information repeatly becuz he/she on the other end cannot comprenhend what you just said in English. Sigh...Dell used to be a good company...

All the support i've done, I've done through email. They respond within the hour. I've had laptop battery replaced and a hd replaced when it was 3 months out of warranty.
They were very helpful.

UPDATE 2:

Ok so i FINALLY got my laptop today. After speaking to someone higher up and having them find out the deal he calls me back yesterday to give me a tracking number for ups and he also verifies which address its coming back to(my husbands office)... COOL so my laptop is on its way.. or is it?

Last night i check the ups site to see how far along turns out they have an unable to deliver 1st attempt. and im like WTF my husbands office is open all the time SOMEONE would have been there to accept the package.

So today just as im about to look up UPS and call them.. i get a knock at my door... GUESS WHO?! UPS!

Delivering my notebook. Fricking idiots HP is really. Im surprised they know how to get to work each day. Blah. Atleast i have my notebook back.

The guy on the other end ( i got his name this time) says that i shouldnt wait for a call from them because they probably wont call back anyways. So after having me on hold for 20 minutes and not getting me anywhere. He said less than the other ppl have told me. I asked to speak to a supervisor.
He tells me he can't give me a supervisor because if he does other ppl waiting for calls will have to wait longer. So i said you mean you cant transfer me to a supervisor? and he told me no and that if i wanted to talk to a supervisor then I had to call complaints and he gave me the number. So i call HP canada and the guy transfers me to complaints and I get to leave a message. Waiting for call back.

BTW... Waiting for a waybill DOES NOT TAKE 1 week!, it's an overnight thing!

THAT is beyond unacceptable. I would have gotten first name and last name, phone number of the employee, his supervisor's full name and phone number, and written a letter to the head of HP support.

I can't imagine how livid you must have been. I would have just lost it right then and there. I would have been ready to get in my car to drive to their phone center to talk to this jackass' supervisor.

Consider your self lucky.
My compaq laptop was out about 3 months the first 11 months I owned it.
I threatened to sue. Not on that, but I could basicaly prove that they falsely advertise the features of that entire line of laptops cause their engineers suck.
Finaly they were suppose to keep it, and send me a check for most of what I paid for it. I got the check alright, and they sent the laptop back stripped of ram.

Compaq/HP is horrible. Their CS is freaking useless. I got a lot better help when I walked into their office and got a secretary to call them internaly. She was able to get me someone who could at least help. Where as calling their 800 numbers you get some high school kid at min wage that can't do nothing.

With the check I got back, I picked up a DELL. Been happy with it ever since.

And it is correct. They dont call you. I've had the same thing. They will not call you unless your laptop has been sent in for repairs > 4 times the first year.
Mine was sent in 3 times, replaced once by the store. Avg time per repair was about 3 weeks.

Enjoy your experience with HP/ Compaq!!!

gee... i love apple for this. my battery died (known flaw apparently, or so my mac buddy says). the next day i got a battery.

lcd died, sent me a box next day, airborne picks it up monday afternoon... tuesday evening it was on it's way back to me already. got it wednesday.

dvd/cdrw died after i got it back unfortunately... called up airborne 6:30 last night (went on vacation, couldn't do it earlier) to schedule a pickup... 15 minutes later they were at my door :)

granted, this has also taught me not to buy a refurb notebook :) but my friends 600m has power problems and it's brand spankin new... another friends dell (dunno which) had HD failures. gotta love laptops.

Ok i lied.. one last update...

While checking out my notebook to make sure nothing else is wrong i start to load up programs and such... seems that i now have 2 yahoo games installed on the desktop.. and when i loaded mirc it was set to dalnet.. I NEVER GO TO DALNET EVER EVER EVER.

No wonder it took them so long to return it.. they were playing on it. Oh and they disabled my anti virus software as well as changing the settings on my touchpad back to the tapping mechanism that i hate.

Edit: On the plus side.. they left their battery inside and now i have a "new" battery as opposed to my old one that only lasted 15 minutes anyways. One good thing that came out of all this.

I'd write a letter.

Not to HP, but to whatsisname Dvorak, the PC Magazine columnist. Ask him to publish your story in PC Magazine.

I don't know about the games. Unless it's part of some package software HP gives out I'd say it's the techs abusing resources. ("I'm just testing the modem boss. Yeah... that's it.") Same goes for mIRC probably.

The antivirus and touchpad settings are more likely more legitimate things. I don't know what AV program you use, but I know Norton can cause BSODs when you try to update drivers or any other system stuff. Same might go for the other programs, depending on settings. The touchpad was probably reset because the techs are used to using it that way and it's unbearably slow for them to use it the other way. Remember, these guys get minimum wage and probably aren't the brightest bulbs in the garden. (Hah, mixed metaphor, it's funny. Laugh dammit!!)

I would write a letter to HP, and to PC Magazine. I would say in my letter to HP that you are also sending the letter to PC Magazine and send HP a copy of the letter you send to PC Mag. They will love you for that ;)

Hmm,sorry to hear about your experiance with HP.

I haven't dealt with their warrenty division in about a year, but I had had a notebook speaker blow on me last year. I called them, they sent a fedex air delivery package to my door, I filled it, sent it out, they had it for less then a day and sent it back to me overnight. Total turnaround of 3 days, which is amazing since it was sent to cali and I live in upstate NY.
