I have not found any reviews that pit these two against each other. I do run my barton
at 2.3Ghz/1.55v, but would like to push it to 2.5Ghz with a better cooler. Silent operation
is not critical, but quiet noise levels would be nice. Anyone with experience dealing with both
of these? I am currently using a Vantec VA4-C7040 with stock TMD fan.

Thanks!

The SI-97 should be quite a bit better but both should easily do the job, and both work with modern Intel/AMD sockets.

In terms of noise the Zalman is probably the safer bet since the built in fan gets very quiet around 1300 RPM (around 5v).

Yup, the SI-97 is better. The Zalman 7000 is about on par with a Thermalright SLK-900A and a ~2000 RPM fan.

Edit: I noticed that the Thermaltake Big Typhoon actually fits on some Socket A motherboards. That's probably the only heatsink that's better than the SI-97.
