i have newegg and googlegear open and am ready to buy the bulk of my system today....
my first build and only the third computer period. I "know" lots, but have no real world experience other than changing a vid card and the like and reading stuff on the boards. i think i got it all and right ( not that its SO hard to get it right ), but want the last word to be someone(s) that HAS more experience than i... if you dont mind:

NEW 'puter ( all prices include shipping ): Grand Total for whole system w/shipping - $1985.41 😀 - smokin for less than 2 large!!!

... sorry about the prices ( or not... 🙂 ) copy and pasted from a monetary record i was keeping ...

i am shying away from the radeon 9700 pro for fear of probs... just want to play 😉... for now i'll wait until things settle a bit, new bios maybe...blah blah blah... i dont think the asus card will be a bottleneck, hope not.

but besides that, hows it look? TIA

You do know there's no firewire on the gigabyte?
I would go for the ASUS's P4G8X DELUXE but except for that little thing, the rest look fine to me.
If it'S your first computer bulding...be carefull..read your mobo manuel to be sure of what you are doing.
You know, for +10$ on the PSU you could have the same thing but with blue led inside it..new feature from antec..pretty cool.

w0w.... the 8inxp has a blue led on its dual power supply fan... couple that with the antec blue... now i gotta go to lan parties 😎

i already have the 8inxp... i dont need no firewire port anyway 😉

thanks + cheers!

Looks good... although I wouldnt pair a 4200 with a 3.0HT... Id get a high-midrange CPU and a higher end Vided card...

thats usually the cause of probs on the 8inxp... havent really read about any other probs accept some dual power weirdness...

Looks ok. If I were you, i'd definately go with the Asus P4G8X Deluxe. Then get a P4 2.4Ghz and overclock is past 3.0ghz, then spend the money saved on a Radeon 9700 Pro. Just curious, what applications are you running that requires the 3.06GHz processor?

im not afraid of the 9700 pro, im afraid of the 9700 pro with my 8inxp. i have had issues with installing ati drivers, but that is supposed to be a thing of the past... its just my mobo is a little touchy with this card... so im waiting ( not really, since the 4200 is OC-able to about 4600 speeds... ) until a new bios is out .....something...

unless this is a BIG mistake to get this card, i think im buying it

BTW... im not a subscriber yet, so i cant read your thread... thanks tho 🙂

or you could get a AMD 2400+ with nforce2 and up the fsb, and have it run at same speed as 3.06 for much less...
the flagship intel proc is too pricy, spend your money elsewere.

Get an Albatron geforce 4 Ti4680 turbo, for $187.00 (newegg). Awesome overclocker and has many great features.

I second this opinion...Albatron makes a nice video card.

man... you think you've done some research and looking around for stuff, then someone shows you something new (and cheaper ( better too? ) )... this is worse than waiting for the next fastest thing... at least you think you know what your waiting for...

...too much hardware!!! :Q
