One kitty will bond more with you.
Two kitties will bond more with each other.... which is how is SHOULD be.

Congrats on the new addition(s) to your family.

I'd definitely get 2 so they can keep each other company when left alone. No extra work to have 2 just need more food and change the litter box a bit more often.

Is it difficult to train cats ?

Like teaching it to poop/piss in the cat box and not all over the place ?

Just remember my personl motto: The more pussy, the better! :p

Actually, just talked today with Zea, from whom I got Pye, my pale white pussy. Turns out I may get his all black brother, now named Moon.

Pye was named Star, but I didn't like that name alone. If I decide to take in Moon, too, and he works out, I'm already thinking of renaming him Die.

Pye or Die?

It'll be my sideways take on Eddie Izzard's "Cake or death?"

Pye or Die ? rotflmao !

if you get him, just remember that for things to go smoothly everybody's gotta smell the same, open cans of tuna, dump the tuna water in a bowl, dip your hands in it and rub tuna juice on both cats... repeat as many times as needed. It'll make them smell the same to each other and it'll encourage receiprocal grooming.

They are brothers who grew up together and lived together until I got Pye back in, like March, or so.

They were quite close. I don't anticipate any problems. Though I am primarily a dog person, this is now my third go-round with cats, more or less. I love all animals . . . after all, I was the guy with Rainbow, the free range rooster!

AThey respond best to Powerpoint demonstrations, with pie charts, or just pie.

Seriously? Cats are inherently clean. If you give them clean, fresh litter, they will use it. As for teaching cats anything else, that depends on you and the individual cat, but is, in general, WAY, WAY more spotty than with dogs.

They pretty much train themselves, their instincts are to hide their wastes.
Keep a clean litter box & they will never be a problem.

As kittens the biggest threats are running up the drapes and shredding your forearms from wrist to elbow
when you play with them - it takes them about 8 months before they learn TO NOT KILL YOU with their claws.

Pair beats one of a kind, but don't draw to the Full House.

I would get two. That way they can play with each other whilst you're away at work all day. Otherwise you'll have one very co-dependant kitty when you get home. Which, while that's all well and good and cute, can lead to behavioral problems like peeing where they're not supposed to, when they're overly depressed or something along those lines.

edit: It also allows your cat(s) to be more socialized and ready for if/when any future cats may come in to your household.

Unless they are over 125lbs, in which case they shouldn't be allowed to live.

EH! I have to disagree... well, my situation is kinda " special ". I have two cats, one is four yrs old, one is 3 yrs old. The younger one is incredibly dominant. Along with the cats we have a 50lb female English Bulldog. She is 8 months old.

The younger cat puts both the cat, AND the dog in check. He takes no crap from either and he weighs almost half as much as the older cat. Our dog tries to engage in playful manners with the cats, but of course they both hate her and are always trying to avoid her.

The younger cat actually runs at and swats at our dog.. its hilarious to watch but we all know its horrible for a cat to be doing that to a 8 month old dog. He has Soft Paws so thats good.

Anyways.. to the main point of my post... (i got way off track.)

The younger cat pee's on rugs/blankets that are in places he likes to sleep or be. The spare bathroom USED to be the litter box room... now we cannot put any rugs on the floor in that room, he pisses on them.

- He pisses on blankets that are on the ground (blankets set out for our dog to sleep on).
- He attacks the older cat for no reason. The older cat will be on the couch arm sleeping and he will bully him off and sleep in his spot for about.. 1-2 minutes and then leave.
- He hates being held by me or my wife. He wiggles all crazy and jumps out (with claws scratching.)
- I hate him more then any animal I've EVER owned. But I dont know how to dispose of him without feeling bad. He's a bad cat, but I never want to know or see a cat get hurt or killed.

If your getting the cats together as kittens they will be perfectly fine. If they are of different ages it may be a problem. I got very unlucky and have a devil spawn for a cat.

I'd take both. My parents have three cats from the same litter, they get along great. My wife and I have the fourth cat from that litter + a cat that is 6 years older, and our two cats get along great.

batmang,

It may sound cold of me, but I used to work for a veterinarian and did a LOT of volunteer work for shelters...

Some animals don't make good pets. You can try everything, but in the end, they just aren't pet material. There are a LOT of animals who DO make good pets and deserve a good home.

If I had a bad apple and tried everything to make it work, I would have it put to sleep/turn it in to a shelter. Of course, because I know animals well I have always been able to pick good ones.... but I did try out a couple who I sent RIGHT BACK after a week or two because they had serious issues.

Some people may want to have nasty animals, but I am just not one of them.

I say two for sure, but one is fine also as long as you can give either one or two the attention they deserve. I love cats. :)

ok, update time

my housemate has the black kitten here for her children, the poor thing was being rejected by the mother and is eatting kitten forumula. I will try to get some pics later
it's the size of a hampster. but appears clear eyed and it's eating,

I went to visit the litter, the mother is a very small black cat who's probably pregnant again :(

I'm getting a little grey guy with green eyes, I think they're still quite young and am going to pick him up at the end of next week, lol, he was so funny stalking the cord from my hoodie.
