would using one HD and having it partiitoned be wise? to have one part of the drive setaway for windows and all installed applications, and the other part of the drive, for my downloads (lots of 'em.)

the drive in question is a 200gb 7200rpm 8mb cache maxtor. will i experience too much system hanging with this setup.

thanks

It should be okay.

My only advice is to make sure your Motherboard has an updated BIOS that can
support the larger 160G / 200G hardrives, and that you have upgrade your WinXP to SP1.

Otherwise, you will only see 137G of space, instead of the 195G you should be getting.

It's more than ok, it's great

by creating more than 1 partition you won't have to spend as much time on defragging a whole drive and instead would need to defrag a single smaller partition and due to the organization of the hard drive performance is increased. By how much is questionable.
