One connection, 2 routers

What would be a good way to tie in 2 wireless routers (1 "N" & 1 "g") to 1 incoming connection (cable modem)???
My thinking is cable modem to a switch, then both routers plugged into the switch????

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish with two routers.

What I believe you are proposing will not work unless your ISP provides you with more than one IP address (not usually the case). As VirtualLarry says, we need more info on what you are trying to do.

Have the same setup for my G devices.

N router connects to ISP and acts as DHCP etc

G router has DHCP, UPNP, SPI, QOS etc disabled, static I.P to nowhere that ISP would normally issue and its own I.P within the N routers I.P range and connected via LAN ports. Basically a wireless access point.

Everybody sees everybody and can share.

Thanks for the replies. Basically I'm wanting 2 seperate wireless networks. One that will work with just my old g and super g devices and another that will work with just my N devices without having to buy another router. I have a dlink 4300 that is my main router and a freebee Linksys wrt160n v3 flashed with dd-wrt that is just laying around.

My setup now is as follows
Road runner service
Motorola surfboard cable modem
DGL-4300
from the 4300 I have 2 desktops plugged in, 1 slingbox, and one 5 port switch
Ports used on the switch are as follows: 1 from router, 1 HR-20 Direct tv DVR, 1 BluRay player, 1 HD DVD player, 1 Vonage adapter/router
I also have a desktop connected to the tv which is plugged into the Vonage adapter/router.


I have a couple of g/super g equipped laptops and a number of N laptops plus an N equipped xbox 360 slim. I would like to incorporate the N router into the system for the N equipped laptops/xbox, but I would also like to be able to use the the N routers wired ports as I could use some extra wired ports.

Just get a switch and plug it into the N router. Much simpler setup.
