Hi,
i have a total of 2 PCs, my gf's PC (#3), my PS2 and now i want another PC.
How can i connect all of those devices to my D-Link router?
can i just buy an additional hub or do i need an additional router?
and if so, how can i connect all those devices to the router
i already have?

thanks a lot!

Hey there,

Yea you can connect up another device to expand your network. A hub would work. I believe you just hook the hub up
to one of the router ports via a CAT 5 or CAT 5E cables. The thing is though to make sure when you do this you
put the new cable connection into the FIRST PORT of the hub....some even require pushing a button. This turns
that one port into an uplink port. This allows the hub to receive data from that one port and spread it out to the
other ports. Of course I am speaking in reference to my 4 port Netgear hub. If you want efficiency a switch would
be the better way to go...since there would be less collisions then a hub.
I hope that helps. I have usually noticed that if you get similar hardware it will most likely be more compatible.
IE: matching Linksys router with a linksys hub.

Just my $0.02

brands of hardware don't really matter, and if you use a cross-over cable (build one yourself or get one from anywhere that sales pc stuff) you don't even need to use the uplink connection.hubs are cheaper than switchs and will get the job done no more pc's than you have, if you plan on having more than 10pc's in you lan at any given point in time then it might be better to get a switch. For more info the faq's are helpful. ;)

Just get the cheapest hub that you can find a 10 base t will work just fine and they can be had for under twenty bucks, if it has a uplink port use a srtaight cable if it does not have a uplink port use a crossover cable. I have 7 machines of a linksys 4 port and a 10 port hub that I paid $10.00 for, works great.

Just nab a 10/100 switch with an uplink port, connect with some crossover CAT5 and you're golden. (Read the above-linked FAQ for more information on that.) I recommend the DSS-8+ if you want to stick with DLink brand. :)

Unless you don't care for your ping time or bandwidth, avoid hubs. I hate the things now that I've got a 16-port 10/100.
