I've got the beer and bourbon covered, but I don't really know anything about scotch. I'm a drinker at heart, not a connoseur, so please - no $50/fifth recommendations - I'm looking for something on the (relative) cheap. Heading to the liquor store in a day or three and I'd like to have an idea of what to look for going in.

Johnny Walker Black - $25ish
Johnny Walker Red - $18ish
J&B - $15ish

I recommend the Black. I love that scotch + it was Winston Churchill's favorite.

The Beer : may make you bloated

The Bourbon: may give you a headache in the morning

The Scotch: WILL kick your ass (especially when mixing with the above)

Teachers Highland Cream.

If you've got to get a blended scotch at least get a good one.

Well I ain't seen my baby since I don't know when,
I've been drinking bourbon, whiskey, scotch and gin
Gonna get high man I'm gonna get loose,
Need me a triple shot of that juice
Gonna get drunk don't you have no fear
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer:music:

Stay away from blends unless you're mixing. Blends like Johnny Walker, are not bad and are appealing if you don't want a challenge, but there are so many single malts that maintain a unique character I see no reason to buy a blend.

My two highest reccomendations for cheap, good single malt scotch are:

Speyburn 10 yr $19.99 750ml
Speyside 12yr $28.99 750ml

You also can't go wrong with Glenlivet 12yr - $23.99 750ml though I find it a bit rougher than the above two.

I prefer to be by my self
When I drink by myself
I prefer to drink with just myself
Otherwise I wouldn't be alone
Drinking by myself
I'd be with people
Drinking with people
And not by myself :music:

No. I pick stuff up locally from a couple of larger stores that offer the same prices.. I don't think I can order liquor from them shipped to IL, actually.
I do often go browsing their user reviews... sort of the Amazon.com of liquor :D

I'm well aware of what Jack and Crown as classified as. I just figured if he was going to throw out Jack I might as well throw out a whiskey thats actually decent.
