Yes, Johnny Depp. Rather, the movie is missing him in all but 15 minutes of it. :p

it was horrible. even worse in the theater where the low quality digital video was apparent.

Meh, I enjoyed it. Not my favorite movie, but a good, fun, wholesome action flick with a lot of humor and some modicum of weirdness (which I enjoyed). I may be a sucker for Johnny Depp, but there you have it. It has a good soundtrack, too.

I should buy the DVD. I want that pork recipe.

I never saw it. Is this something to rent or just pass up all together?

I doubt a rental would disappoint. Go for it.

I've got the DVD at home, haven't watched the recipe yet. I picked up the trilogy when BB had it at $25.

Someone posted a thread about the recipe last week, but no amount of searching could bring it up for me, it's like it vanished. I can't imagine why it'd have been deleted, but for all intents and purposes, it's gone .

Well with a thread title like that, no wonder it was so hard to find!

Being a huge fan of desperado I was dissapointed. Depps character just did way too many cheesy things almost cartoonish. The fact that its supposed to be a sequel yet they change large parts of the story, bring people back from the dead (2 guys Cheech's character and the other big mexican guy). It had the potential to be a really good movie, but those things really ruined it. I still think it was ok.

I can't believe it was right there . I searched full text for "mexico" "pork" "puerco" "pibil" and a ton of other things and it didn't come up at all. FT search has worked for me before, I wonder what was weird about it the other day.

I must not have tried just a title search :)

Edit: I don't remember the big dude being in Desparado (it's been a while since I saw it), but I know Cheech mentioned in an interview that his character in 'Mexico' was the cousin of the character in 'Desparado'. The movie never mentioned that though, so if you hadn't seen that interview, you'd have never known. How hard would it have been to have him say "Oh yeah, he killed my cousin in a bar fight too"?

I agree, VERY poor sequel to Desperado. I can't understand why critics wet themselves so much over it! I saw it in theaters (local drive-in tripple feature with Underworld and SWAT) but didn't think the video quality was that horrible. I felt the story quite lacking, though. Very random, and while it has some clever elements it jumps around all over the place far too much. Plus I thought the ending was complete and total dog sh!t.

Desperado is still unquestionably the best of the trilogy.

I definitely enjoyed Desparado (admittedly a large part of this was because of a certain scene with Salma Hayek), but Once Upon a time In Mexico had absolutely no redeeming qualities.

i enjoyed the first 2 movies, and not quite with the same enthusiasm, but i liked OUATIM also. depp's performance was enjoyable. at first, i was disappointed that the mariachi didnt wipe out a whole bar or anything, but i realized and he even mentions this, that he didnt want to wipe out everyone, he only wanted to take out Marquez because of what he did to Salma. he didnt want to start from the bottom again. he wanted out of the business and was forced back in. he did what he had to do, and left again. and also, a lot of people had problems with this, but i enjoy when robert rodriguez recycles characters. a lot of people have problems with that, but i dont. like in from dusk till dawn, robert rodriguez and quentin use cheech marin as 3 different characters in that movie. i kind of think of that as rodriguez's trademark, kind of like QT and filming people's feet. oh well, just my 2 cents.
