Once again I have to submit forms to Opt-out of union political contributions.

This is so stupid, I shouldn't have to do this each year and I should have more than a 30 day window to do this. Here unions have the right to take as much money from your pay check a month as they want for political contributions. It is an Opt-Out system, and not just Opt-Out once but you must do it EACH and every year. There is an open period where you are allowed send a letter to Opt-Out for the next year. I have issue with this.

1. It puts an unnecessary burden on the worker.
2. Most workers are unaware that they have a right to Opt-Out, and are not informed.
3. I should have a RIGHT to Opt-out permanently. The fact that I can't shows the union only cares about my money and not my rights.

You shoulda figured that out the instant you joined a union.

that's all a union cares about... money.
nothing more.

unions are a sham.

Oh I didn't joined the union, I am only doing "fairshare", but "fairshare" includes the right take as much money from me as they want to go to political candidates.

What is worst is I have to take a day out of work to inorder to Opt-out of poltical contribution, because I am required to drive to union office and hand in the letters personally. It can only be done during specific days of the week and during specific hours of the week.

I smell bullshit. If you don't like your circumstances then leave. I have to wonder what your pay and benefits would be without the union you hate so much.

Bitch! :)

Why do you assume the 'union representative' is an employee? If he is, what makes you believe he isn't pulling his share of the work? Where is your data and proof, or are you just spouting teeny bopper bullshit that you can't back up?

i'm not assuming the "union representative" is an employee... from my personal experience, "union reps" are former employees (who did no work to begin with) that now work for the union. Where is my proof.

Life.fucking.experience.

In my experience, those who praise unions are the slackers who do shit, and want everything (promotions, raises, etc) handed to them because "i've been here for years... i deserve it"

no. you dont. work for it. then you deserve it.
just because you've been with a company for 5 years doesn't mean you deserve that promotion.

You are filled with hate, young padawan. There is good and evil in every organization, but you see only the evil. Why is that?

maybe because my experiences, and the people i know with experiences, haven't been pleasant ones..

i'm sure there are people who say nice things about unions,
just as i'm sure there are people who say nice things about GWB.

i just don't happen to know any of either.

The union I am in has been great from what I have seen. The company I work for has been great as well.

No real consolation, but be glad you have the means to opt out without recrimination. When I belonged, it was an option but if you did so, there was a near 100% chance you'd get the shit beat out of you in a dark corner one day. To top that off, management would throw whatever they could at you also - with the unions blessing. It takes two to tango.

Needless to say, nobody opted out.

Wrong, not bullshit. My union does nothing for us, all they do is take our money to give to HQ which doesn't do a damn this for us.

A few years back Arnold proposed prop 75 to fix this issue, but the unions lied to everyone and said anyone could opt out with such ease already. That is a big lie, and the public bought it.

This. You should see the temple of an office Labourers International has. Nicer than a lot of big corporate HQs. Who's exploiting the workers?

I'm on the page that unions and corporations shouldn't be allowed to make political donations. Period.

glad my union (CAW) doesn't pull that crap

Actually if your union uses dues money for political activities then you are entitled to withhold that percentage of the total dues they use for political from your dues. There used to be notices required to be posted in workplaces notifying union members of this right as a result of CWA v Beck but Clinton issued an executive order removing this notice requirement.

The OP must be a state employee.

Just another "blood sucker" who wants the perks, pay, and benefits fought for by union members...but doesn't think he should have to pay for them.

You've been able to "opt out" of political contributions of your union dues for a LONG time. What's the big deal about having to fill out a form once per year? Is that too much work for you?

As always, you have the option to "vote with your feet" by quitting this horrible job and finding a new one that doesn't have union requirements.

1. It isn't a simple form, it is a long letter that you must type out.
2. I shouldn't have to take time out of work to do this.
3. I should have more than a 30 day window to turn this form in.
