So, from what I've gathered the intel X3000 is able to comfortably run vista's aero interface. What other onboard solutions are able to run it? I assume integrated nvidia and ATI chipsets can, anything else?

I'm tring to come up with a cheap motherboard processor combo and, since its for a non-gaming girl, I dont really need to spend anything on graphics except for vista's aero.

I guess I could get a mobo with an agp slot and just have her use my geforceFX 5900. Shes using a broken mobo right now and having a bunch of problems, one of which is that overlay seems to stop (goes to a green screen) with the geforcefx 5900. i ASSUME its the mobo and not the card since i never had that problem with it, in my mobo. what are the odds its a mobo problem? and how does the 5900 cope with aero?

the intel x3000 is probably out since core 2 duo + mobo is just a bit out of my price range. so its probably going to be x2 4200+.

edit: just as an aside, what wold be a cheapie PCI-E video card thats good for aero?

this might help fix the problem.

Another fix is to not use overlays to playback video - you can usually set this in the media player you are using.
