I've tried two different driver versions for XP and they both say that they are working but I get nothing. I've tried games and apps but to no avail. I've also tried all of the jacks and made sure that the speakers are powered on.I just swapped out the mobo and took out and uninstalled the Turtle Beach but everything else is fine except for the sound. I hope its something stupid that I missed. Also, none of the newer BIOS's say that they correct any problems. Dragon+, Athlon 1900+, 512MB DDR, Radeon 8500. Thanks a lot....Matt

Other than making sure the sound is switched on in the bios, i have no ideas for you. I run a Dragon (not the plus version) and have built a few others but i havn't tried any with XP yet.

Just thouyght of something that might help. Did you install the applications for the sound card or just the drivers? If you installed the applications click on your C-Media Mixer icon and make sure nothing is muted. A shot in the dark but you never know.

Actually I installed and double checked everything but to no avail. I unplugged the 5.1 card that came with it and the sound worked fine. I spent a couple of hours clicking everything using the trail-and-error method. Now I have to figure out why that card doesnt work. I wanted to have it installed in case I got a 5.1 speaker set up.

Arg,
great. Just what I didn't want to hear, santa is allegly bringing a dragon+, AMD XP 1700+, winxp
and an 8500DV as my HTPC, but cheaped out on the sound card, figuring the dragon+ 5.1 support would do
for a while. Just my luck. But I'll post my results here when santa has delivered and the rig is up and running
and we can compare notes, nitrous.

Don't worry, I probably just did something stupid or was one click away from getting it right. I havent heard of anyone having this problem with other Dragons.

I havn't heard of anyone having problems either including myself. You are the first. I have built around a dozen and they all work great. In fact they work so great i am currently just finishing up one for my wife for XMAS.

bump because i want to know a fix for this as well.

I do have a similar problem with XP and the C-media chip.

I cant seem to get both channels working on the same time, no matter what i do on the mixer.

How does the onboard sound perform? Is it good enough for me to remove my Santa Cruz?

OT: could someone help me out with memory selection for this board? ECC or non-ECC? Unbuffered or Registered?

TIA

Personally, I feel the onboard CMedia sound is adequate for general users who wants hassle free setup(think VIA chipset vs. SBLive!) and good 2/4/5.1 speakers audio playback.

However, when compared to the Audigy, I think it still lacks the excellent audio quality and other features the Audigy offers. :D
