Onboard sound or ancient creative pci

I am putting together my mostly new build (Gigabyte DS3L, E6750, 2GB DDR2 800) and as I finish up prior to bringing over my HDDs and ODDs I was wondering whether I should still use an ancient creative soundblaster live PCI card (I know, about five gens old, or more). Even though it is old, will the pci card serve me better, or should I just send it off to the museum and go with the realtek onboard audio?

Thanks.

Quickly lookig up that mb gives:

Audio:
1. Realtek ALC888 codec
2. High Definition Audio
3. 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
4. Support for S/PDIF In/Out
5. Support for CD In

IIRC the soundblaster live! Supported (supports I guess 🙂 ) 4.1 channel sound only, so if you're using a subwoofer it won't have its own seperate channel.
With the high quality of onboard audio nowadays I'd use the onboard. If you don't like it you can always add the pci card later.
Someone may of course disagree with me *looks around*

I'd say onboard... I have a sound blaster live 5.1 with that little input/output box and still use onboard
realtek on the kn9 sli

The SB Live does not have a dedicated Sound Processor, but perhaps is not all that bad in terms of sound quality...?

Why don't you try it on your new MB, decide what sounds/performs better with your speakers, and come back here to tell us what you think...?

Thanks for the feedback. 🙂 Seems like a toss-up, so I will stick with the easy solution and work with onboard unless it just jumps out at me right off the bat as being lower quality than what I am used to.
