onboard sound on presario 5000

when i run the XP hardware test, it says "your hardware cannot play sounds". and hence, no sound plays when i play wav files and the like. it is turned on in the bios, it looks fine in the "device manager". anyone have any ideas?

also, anyone know what "setupx.dll" is? it keeps saying that it can't find it whenever i am installing/uninstalling drivers
