Onboard Sound Not Working

I had a Santa Cruz 5.1 sound card, which was working fine until a few days ago. All of a sudden the sound died, and despite doing everything imaginable (reinstalled drivers, switched PCI slots etc.), the sound still didn't come back.

So today, I took out the card and was going to run the onboard sound and interestingly enough, the onboard sound didn't work either. I'm getting a "Input not detected" message. I've tried enabling/disabling AC'97 audio in the BIOS, but nothing worked. Again, I have reintalled the latest drivers, but still no use. I have even reset the BIOS, but I don't get anywhere.

Is the sound subsystem on the board is dead (which still doesn't explain why the Santa Cruz card doesn't work) or what's going on?

Yes, did you install/uninstall anything before this happened. Could be a corrupted windows file giving you problems. Have had this happened on many occasions.
Please give more info in order to help you better.

1. Speakers are plugged in and not dead. 🙂
2. Installed nothing on the system.
3. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers.
4. I took apart the system and changed slots (reset the BIOS) just in case there was some odd glitch, but still no use.

Would it be possible to try the card in another system? I doubt it's the card because both mysteriously stopped working. I have a Santa Cruz and when I used mine I was always sure to disable the onboard sound. It couldn't be that simple though, right?

True, I have disabled the onboard sound. I'll try the case in the new system. And yes, I agree with you. It can't be possible for both audio subsystems to die mysteriously.
