onboard sound (IHDA) & headphone impedance

What is the maximum impedance for headphones you'd consider using for onboard sound (in this case, Intel High Definition Audio on a DH77KC)? I will not be using an amplifier.

I'm currently on 16Ω earbuds and even they are a bit lacking in maximum volume.

Also, does relaying the signal through a keyboard's headphone jack effectively increase the impedance? I'm assuming yes? Because that would explain it.
 
Yes, the more connections/relays you have can increase impedence and or reduce quality. However most mp3 players/phones/onboard sound can drive 32 ohm cans. Asrock and I think some others were including amps for headphones, I know the z87 and z97 from asrock claim to be able to drive 600 ohm cans.

I would connect directly to the soundcard and see if it helps.
