One day, the sound on from my Asus board just suddenly stopped working. The HD audio controller is enabled in Bios and the Realtek audio manager still functions as normal, except no sound comes out from the motherboard. I have confirmed that it is not the speaker's fault by testing it with other devices. This happened right after I swapped video cards a few times. Could it be that I may have damaged the board after swapping video cards?

"No sound" issues are such a pain in the ass
I have seen as many as 10 sound/video devices in Dev man:
Bluetooth
AMD/Nvidia - 1 or more if you have more cards
Intel native audio controller
Realtek
XBox
USB
etc.
Try going thru every one and disabling ea except the Realtek.
Remove the Realtek
Boot into bios and turn off Realtek HD
Reboot to Win 7 coupla times and make sure it doesnt reload device or any drivers
Boot in safe mode and make sure no "phantom" Realtek are listed in dev man
Boot to bios turn back on Realtek
Boot to Win 7 and manually install Realtek drivers using .exe
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Then there are a dozen volume sliders also, in Win 7 Sound and Realtek and the main volume slider and they all have tiny little speaker icons that can be muted (red) by accidentally clicking near it.
Basically your Realtek speakers must be default in both Realtek CP and the Win 7 sound main page and no other choices avail in dev man

If you wish you can make a screenshot of the sound video controllers entry in dev man fully expanded and post it here

Have had that happen to my ASUS P8P67 MB. Sound simply stopped working for no reason. Everything said it was working in OS, but would not output any sound (and was working just fine previously with no changes to anything). The fix was to RMA it...

I, too, am using RealTek on-board sound. No problems yet but I've only had this system for 3 months. The quality of components for on-board sound are going to be cheap-ass compared to an add-on card such as the SB Audigy 4.
