Using an Asus K8V motherboard with onboard SoundMax sound, I'd like to use for the SoundMax for basic windows sounds, and plug in a RME Hammerfall for audio recording. However, when I plug in the RME, the SoundMax disappears from the Device Manager.

Is there any know fix for this?

Thanks

You can't have both. If you have a PCI sound card you want to disable your onboard sound in the bios and remove the drivers. I am surprised it is not conflicting...

There's no conflict - when you plug in the PCI card, the onboard components disappear from the Device Manager.

It's frustrating, cause my old machine (an XP running on the A7N8X) allowed onboard and PCI sound to co-exist.
