Onboard RAID sucks? How about 3 PCI Express slots?

Here is the config summary:
AMD 6 4bit 4.2 ghz dual core
2x nVidia BFG 7800's
PC Power and cooling 850 watts PSU
Asus AN8 SLI mobo

I have an Asus AN8 SLI with two BFG 7800 video cards...but not running in SLI all the time as they are powering 3x 21.5" flat panel monitors via DVI. When I play games I can reboot in SLI mode...but 1 card seems to work great.
I flattened my box and reinstalled everything using the on-board Sillicon RAID5 controller replacing my Highpoint 1640 PCI RAID5 controller card. I feel like it is slower that the PCI RAID controller. I was even looking for a new PCI Express controller card, but I dont have any more PCI Express slots!

The question is this:
Is the onboard RAID5 controller of the Asus AN8-SLI slower than a Highoint 1640 PCI RAID5 controller?
also...
is there a mobo that has 3 PCI Express slots (2 for SLI and 1 for RAID5 controller)?

thanks in advance for the geniuses that know the answer to these two questions...
