Onboard NIC problem?

Hi. I am a beginner. Am trying to install comcast. Got the motorola modem installed just fine which makes me think the NIC is working ok (checks out ok when I run network diagnostics on Win XP Pro), but when I use the comcast install disk I am getting an error message "network cable unplugged" Realtek RTL 8169/8110. I tried installing a new driver for the RTL off driverguide to no avail. I am assuming the RTL is an onboard NIC.

Any suggestions?

The chip numbers are Realtek PCI gigabit ethernet chips. Drivers best from www.realtek.com.tw

You might have twin LAN connections on your mainboard ... and if so, the message about one of them being unconnected might be perfectly normal.
