Onboard NIC detected, but unable to install driver...

The device is detected but I am UNABLE to install the drivers.

WHen I direct the file locations, it always says no device files were found for it...

I've tried the driver that came with the board on the cd, I've tried the driver that I downloaded for realtek NIC and they are doing the same thing.

What's the worst is that I've tried 3 different PCI NIC and its doing the same thing!!! ARGGGGG . any questions?
2 of the cards are supposed to be 100% pnp with xp which worked fine before ...

Yes I did install fresh xp with SP2...

Do you have any 'Unknown devices' listed in the DEVICE MANAGER?

If so, then delete them ALL. Shutdown PC.

Boot into SAFE MODE(F8) and see if the device is detected as 'Unknown'
Then try 'Updating' the driver.

Reboot.

nope. this is coming up as, Network device with yellow question mark on it.... what's odd is that it doesnt work with pci network cards that I plug in...

delete/uninstall the device with the yellow mark, reboot.
IN BIOS, Disable the onboard NIC.
Reboot into windows.
Are there any yellow symbols in Device manager.
If not, then Reboot - go to BIOS - enable NIC
Boot back into window.
If windows gives you the option to install new hardware, select NO.
Insert the mobo driver cd, and run that.
See what happens - and please post back

No onboard NIC option from BIOS!!! isnt that odd? and im using the latest bios ... odd...

I've tried removign from safemode and restarting... it detects it as NIC again but it wont take any of the drivers.. manual installation doesnt work either..

what bothers me the most is the fact that it wouldnt install any other NIC i have either... sigh...

Well, what IS that onboard LAN hardware anyhow? PCI chip? PHY chip attached to chipset integrated MAC?

Can you check again just to make sure that there isn't a 'onboard network' or 'intLAN' or something that could be related to the onboard NIC

tried that.. it still wont detect the driver properly.. argg.
im going to try this winsockxpfix ..

I see. that's why the cardS that work fine are not working on this mobo and the ON-Board NIC wont take the driver. :roll:

If the Onboard NIC is enabled, [and you seem to not be able to disable it], then any other NIC might have difficulties being installed.
I would go for an RMA if you are positive that there is not an option to disable the onboard NIC.
There should be an option in the BIOS, maybe under 'integrated peripherals' or something like that.
