Onboard NIC dead

I have an older P35 LGA 775 Board (Asus P5K-SE) and I think the onboard NIC is dead and I need to replace it. Is there anyway to get it to come back to life or do I need a replacement PCI or PCI-E Card? and if I do have to buy another card what is a good 10/100/1000 card (Or are they all basically the same) I currently have a 10/100 card in there but I need the Gigabit speed as my router (Netgear WNR3500) supports it and I xfer large files between computers
Thanks

The same thing happened to my Gigabyte P35 board, so I just replaced it with an Intel gigabit NIC. It doesn't really matter whether it's PCI or PCI-E, I would just get whatever works best for you (price, free slots on mobo, etc.).

I have had onboard nics come back to life by updating the BIOS on the boards. I am pretty sure that was only on a few different Intel boards though. Couldn't hurt to try though.

I have had good luck with both the Intel and Netgear gigabit cards. As Young above pointed out, pic the model best suited for available slot.

Thanks a BIOS flash did the trick and it now also recognizes my E5400 Correctly
Thanks
