i put together an amd64 system with an ECS KN1 lite a few weeks ago but haven't really had to time to use it. i put the rest of the components in this weekend, but now the onboard gigabit ethernet doesn't work anymore.
onboard lan is enabled in the motherboard bios and was functioning before friday. now, the jack doesn;t light up when the rj45 cable is plugged in and my router doesn't show that anything has been plugged. the nvidia ethernet network still shows up in windows even aftter an uninstall. i've tried different rj45 cables and the result is the same.
any ideas on how to get onboard lan working again? (or is this an RMA only solution)
thanks

considering the price of a PCI LAN card, I wouldnt RMA it if it is the problem.. I just get a simple adapter

thats what i thought too since i have an extra nic, but the pci nic doesn't support wol and i would have had to occupy all 3 pci slots (firewire card, ata controller, and then the nic), which would impede airflow for my vid card.

i was ready to buy an oem msi mobo (i really didn't like the ecs anyway but it came free with a combo), but i popped the case open today and noticed that the one of the metal prongs on the io shield was touching the metal/socket of the ethernet from the motherboad side. i pulled it up so that it was no longer touching and miraculously the onboard lan works again. i guess that metal prong might have caused it to short out. i guess that saves me from rma-ing for now.
