If you have an add-on PCI IDE (say ata100 for example) controller from like promise you cannot also use the oboard PCI IDE controller too right ? One takes over and the other is disabled right ? Just wondering, thanks !

Nope, you can use both contollers. If you add an Ultra 100 cards from promise the you would be able to have 8 devices in all!

The add on card acts as an SCSI controller; If you want to boot to a drive on it, you must select boot with SCSI in the BIOS. I'm using the ATA66 card with DVD, CDRW, and CDrom all on thier own channels, along with 2 HD's.
