hi folks,

I have the Radeon X550(with 256MB) card in my old PC, and I just build a new machine using the Asus M4A88T-V mobo, which has Radeon HD 4250. the card is 3-4years old, and I assumed it cannot be better from the on-board video in the new mobo. is this correct? i found this page, where it seems even the old card may be better.

thanks!

Where did you get that conclusion from?

Even from the page you linked, it shows Radeon 4250 as having a score of 159 whereas the X550 only scores 124.

Of course, neither one is good if you plan to do any sort of even half-serious gaming, but the 4250 should be fine for HD playback and such.

Hi 996GT2,

you are exactly right, I think I mixed up the numbers for the two cards, too late in the night I guess! I just wanted to be sure before tossing out the old card, that's all.

I will not do any gaming, just editing AVCHD video from camera, and also importing and editing all those miniDV tapes that are lying around for years! Hope the 4250 is sufficient for those tasks? are there any other factors that will affect the video editing? I was planning to use Adobe premiere elements.

I have the Phenom II 555 BE, which I was able to unlock to a B55.
thanks

One thing to consider - the HD4250 might get a little choppy in Aero if driving a high res. 1920x1080/1200 on a single monitor is fine, but 2x 1920x1080/1200 was noticeably not as smooth as a decent discrete card.

Just recently tried driving Aero with dual 1920x1080 monitors with a variety of cards (2600 Pro, 4200, 4250, 4650, 9500GT, 8500GT and GT210) for new builds.
