Onboard Graphics faster?

I just recently lost my video card, a Gigabyte HD4550 512 mb DDR3. Being that I had JUST finished an interview for a job that day, Id swear fate was messing with me. So, I switched to the onboard Intel HD graphics on my Gateway DX4831 Desktop. And I found something interesting...What usually would take an hour for encoding video, took about 4-10 minutes. What gives? Is it just b/c its using possibly more memory than the Gigabyte card?
