I do not listen to much music on the computer and just use my headsets so would it be ok to stick with onboard audio on the ds3 1.3?

Also, how much of an effect does having a sound card have on gaming? Is it pretty decent or just 1-3 fps?

Onboard sound has come a long way. I use it now. It has some effect but not enough to warrant getting a sound card IMO. take that money and get more ram, faster video card, etc... You will see a much better return on your money.

It would be completely OK... I myself don't use it now, because i have 7.1 sound system, and want EAX and all the lovely 3d sound effects in games.

You mean how sound card affects your framerate? Well, i didn't test this... there shouldn't really be much difference. Really, don't bother yourself with this... you can just use integrated audio and it won't slow down your games. If u need advanced 3d effects, go for creative labs. I know their customer care is pretty bad, drivers are late etc. but they pretty much have the monopoly for game audio market.
