Onboard Audio question

I have a mobo with onboard Realtek AC'97 audio. Now my mobo has SPDIF output...is there any way for me to transmit DD and DTS straight to my reciever for it to decode? I keep hearing 'bit perfect' being thrown around...is this what I need to do?

Yeah, your onboard should be able to pass at least DD if not both.

There may be a setting on your sound utility program for selecting for AC3 passthrough instead of PCM which would allow you to send a DD stream to your receiver.

You'll need to set whatever DVD player program you're using to a passthrough setting as well.
