Onboard Audio and Overclocking

Does overclocking interfere with onboard audio and other onboard devices? Aren't the PCI frequencies locked on most boards?

I have two 1.6Hz Northwoods that overclock easily to 2.4GHz (2.6GHz max but not 100% stable) with air cooling. Currently I'm running one on an Asus P4G8X motherboard and the other on a Asus P4B533. Overclocking to 2.1 or 2.4GHz with onboard audio on, both systems will hang on the WinXP startup sound. If I turn off the startup sound they work fine until another sound file (system sound, MP3, or whatever) is played and then they hang. If I run the processors at the stock speeds, onboard sound is fine. If I use a PCI sound card and overclock everything is fine also--I'm currently using an Audigy card in one and a generic CMedia card in the other.

I've tried messing with the Asus "Turbo Modes" which (if I'm not mistaken) lock the PCI frequencies but that does not correct the problem with onboard audio and overclocking. Even with Turbo 1, the systems will still lock up on the first sound file when using onboard audio.

I'm wondering if this is always a problem with overclocking? Or are some motherboards or onboard audio chipsets better then others at tolerating overclocking?

Is everyone else in the world (besides me) enjoying both onboard sound and overclocking?

Thanks for the input.
