Onboard AC'97 very very quiet on my K7 Master.....any idea why? **SOLVED**

I'm trying to use my onboard AC97 Audio on my K7 Master....It installed an Avance AC97 for Via Audio device.....

and it works...but it's very very very quiet....

I set the Master and Wave out volumes to max, and then set my stereo to max and it's still very quiet.

With my SBLive! Value it's quite loud enough around half volume on the stereo, and about 3/4s on the software volume controls.

Any ideas?

try different drivers...u don't have your speakers plugged into the wrong port?...muhaha!

no idea, the onboard codec on my asus k7m worked fine when i tried it out...

lol

I tried different drivers and my Win2000 bluescreened on startup.

Then I went back to the original set, and windows updated them.

There aren't a lot of choices for port lol. It's a 2 channel codec with 3 plgus. Mic in, Line in, and Line out.

It is a fairly soft sound anyway, thats why you need amplified speakers, but you are using you sterio so it doesn't make sense, getter a bigger amplifier🙂

lol it's amplified....and the SBLive is Line-level outs to...

I expected it to be quieter...but I cranked it to absolute max and it sounds like he's whispering...and I can barely hear the music.

Max volume on the stereo is not something I would ever use, it's borderline painful when you are this close to the speakers (when playing a CD...obviously not with the AC97)

I managed to find a driver that actually works...

The Avance it autodetected is quiet....the second one I tried to install it didn't like..I thought it was a Via one, but it detected as a Yamaha something.

But the Autoplay on the MSi CD had a Via Sound driver install and that worked. It just thinks that it's an MVP4 sound driver for some reason.

I guess it's probably the same south bridge though.

The AC'97 driver is the same for all VIA chipsets except the new KT266 and Apollo Pro 266, which use the V-Link.

The VIA driver is the one you want because most of the AC'97 codec is housed in the southbridge. The tiny Avance Logic (or whatever other company) codec on the board isn't much more than a signal breakout chip.
